AnsThe author was so keen to have-a pen pal because several boys and girls of his class had pen pals in foreign countries, and to have a pen pal was the fashion of the day.

Ans.Alice's first letter made the author so happy that he read it again and again. it had all the music of life ,
he felt that he was in seventh heaven .
